the beginning until now!
I started my electronics hobby at age 8. I progressed to
repairing televisions when I was 12. I used to cycle to jobs, one handed, holding
my toolbox with my other hand.
Having left school, I became an electronics apprentice at
Marconi for one year. I then spent three years in the civil service learning
how to process bits of paper. This taught me the office side that I needed for
my self-employment which I started at age 21.
I rented a shop in 1975 where I sold and repaired electronic
items. In 1990 I bought my own premises.
I built my first website in 1997, long before many others. I was always top in Google type searches in those days! In 1999 I also started earning money by developing websites for others. At the same time I started to sell on QXL. It provided me with some really good business until eBay overtook it and killed it. I still have their free gift of an orange and white umbrella sitting by my front door.
In 2004 I stopped repairing equipment (I never really enjoyed this part of my business anyway), A few years later I closed the shop to customers and started selling just
on eBay and directly through my own website. This I continued until 2023.
For the previous six years I have done voluntary work for
charities offering training in using devices for disabled, blind and partially
sighted people.
In all these years I have gained considerable knowledge in problem
solving and resolving customers issues. Although I no longer need to work full time,
I still wish to offer my services to those that may benefit. I also don’t need
to charge a high hourly rate and am happy just to remain busy and relevant.
If you would like a
good service that isn’t going to
bankrupt you please try me. Also, if you want something done quickly and
reliably, I can do that too. Procrastination is not one of my
failings!
